“We at HL believe that all people should get the best quality medicines. We endeavour to restore them to health.”
HL is involved in manufacturing ointments and Creams. Ointment is a homogeneous, viscous, semi-solid preparation with a high viscosity that is used for external application. Ointments combine 80% oil and 20% water. The general classes for ointment bases that act as vehicles are: Hydrocarbon bases, Absorption bases, Water-soluble bases and Water-removable bases. Each therapeutic ointment possesses any of these four bases. The choice of ointment base depends on factors such as the action desired, the nature, bioavailability and stability of the drug.
Creams are semi-solid emulsions of oil and water in approximately equal proportions. They can be prepared in two ways: oil-in-water where oil droplets are dispersed in continuous water phase and water-in-oil where the water droplets are dispersed in continuous oily phase. Oil-in-water creams are less greasy and get washed off easily with water. Water-in-oil creams provide the moisturizing properties and hydrophobic drugs can be released more readily.
Lotions are semi-solid or liquid (low viscosity) preparations for external application without friction. They are used for cooling, soothing or protective properties.
The evaluation of creams, ointments and lotions is monitored batch-to-batch by performing tests such as particle size determination, weight variation test, solubility test, viscosity determination, pH test, microbial contamination etc.
